  Tour Itinerary

Day 01             Hyderabad / Nagarjuna Sagar (150 Kms. / 3 Hrs.)

Drive from Hyderabad to Nagarjuna Sagar ,on arrival check in at Hotel
Afternoon board on boat to Nagarjunakonda : Nagarjunakonda Museum ( Museum closed on Friday), The major attractions in a tour to Nagarjunakonda are the Nagarjunakonda caves that were discovered in 1950’s. These caves house the ancient Chaityas, Viharas, monasteries and the Stupas. The Mahachaitya is the large structure of the caves that contain the sacred relics of Buddha. The  other tourist attractions are the
Nagarjunasaagar dam and the waterfalls, the caves include the Belum caves, Mogalarajapuram caves, and the Yaganti caves.
Anupu the Amphitheatre :  During the construction of the Nagarjunasagar dam, the ruins of an ancient Buddhist university were excavated it is located a few kilometres away from the Nagarjunasagar dam. A place of great architectural interest with faithful reconstruction of third century Viharas (Buddhist University) and an amphitheatre with fine acoustics, that can transport one to an era lost in the pages of time

Day  02      Nagarjuna Sagar  / Vijayawada (180 Kms. / 4 & ½  Hrs.)

After breakfast drive to Vijaywada enroute visit Amaravati : The Great Stupa of Amravati is larger than the stupa at Sanchi erected at this place some 2000 years ago. The local refer to it as the Mahastupa and is also known as Deepaladinne or the Mound of Lamps. An envoy of Emperor Ashoka, who spread Buddhism in this region, laid the foundation of the Great Stupa at Amravati. The stupa is made of brick with a circular vedika and platforms protruding in four cardinal directions are 95 ft high. The stupa is kept at the Government
Museum in Chennai. Buddha is depicted in a human form on the circular panel subduing an elephant. It is based on a story of Devadatta, Buddha's cousin sending the elephant to attack the Buddha. A museum must not be missed while on tour of Amaravati. It houses a few remains from the stupa.
 

After visit drive to Vijayawada, on arrival check in at Hotel

Afternoon visit Undavalli Caves, The Undavalli caves are located in the village of Undavalli, at a distance of 8-km from Vijayawada. There are beautiful sculptures and architectural specimens on the high hill overlooking the Krishna river.
